These terms apply to bookings and to anyone on the premises at 68 Marsden Road, Paihia 0200, Bay of Islands, New Zealand, operated by Wave Passage Hospitality Ltd, NZBN 9429048317762. New Zealand law governs them and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction. Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

1. Making a booking
- An enquiry through this website is not a booking. A booking exists when we have written back confirming dates, room and rate, and you have replied to accept it.
- The person booking must be eighteen or over and is responsible for everyone on the reservation.
- Rates shown on this site are the lowest of the year and are a guide. The rate that applies is the one in your confirmation.
- All rates are in New Zealand dollars and include GST at 15%.
- A tourism levy or similar charge introduced by central or local government after your booking will be passed on at cost, and we will tell you before you arrive.
2. Payment
- We take a credit card to hold a reservation. Nothing is charged at that point except on non-refundable rates and some packages, where the position is stated in the confirmation.
- The balance is settled on departure, or on arrival for stays of a single night.
- We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, EFTPOS and cash. Card surcharges, where they apply, are shown before you pay.
- A pre-authorisation of NZ$150 is taken at check-in against incidentals and released on departure. Banks typically take three to five working days to clear it, which is their timing and not ours.
3. Cancellation
- Flexible rates — cancel free up to 24 hours before 2pm on the day of arrival. After that we charge the first night.
- Packages — cancel free up to 48 hours before arrival. Inside that we charge the first night.
- Non-refundable rates — paid in full at booking, not refundable and not moveable. They are cheaper for exactly that reason and we make it obvious when you choose one.
- Peak periods — 20 December to 10 January, and Waitangi weekend, need 14 days’ notice. Inside that we charge 50% of the stay.
- No show — the first night is charged and the rest of the reservation is released.
- If we have to cancel your booking, which happens very rarely, we refund everything you have paid and help you find somewhere comparable. We do not owe you consequential losses and we will still try to fix the day.
4. Arrival, departure and the rooms
- Check in from 2pm, check out by 10am. Late checkout to 2pm is free if the room is not sold that night and NZ$60 if it is.
- Bags are held before and after, at the desk, at no charge.
- Photo identification is required at check-in for the person named on the booking.
- Every room and every indoor space is smoke-free and vape-free, as required by the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act 1990. Smoking in a room brings a NZ$350 cleaning charge, because it takes the room out of service for a day.
- Maximum occupancy per room is stated on the rooms page and is a fire safety limit, not a preference.
- Dogs are welcome in four ground-floor rooms at NZ$45 a stay, by prior arrangement. Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere, at no charge, with no notice.
- You are responsible for damage caused by your party beyond fair wear.
5. The Motukōkako Room
- Entry is restricted to persons aged twenty years or over. Photo identification is checked on every entry, without exception, including for hotel guests.
- The room operates under the Gambling Act 2003 and the conditions of our venue licence. House rules are displayed at the door and at each table, and the duty manager’s decision on a disputed play is final.
- Opening hours are midday to 2am, seven days, except Christmas Day, Good Friday and Easter Sunday, when the law requires us to close.
- We may refuse entry, or remove any person, without giving a reason. We do so quietly.
- No photography or filming is permitted on the gaming floor.
- We do not extend credit, cash personal cheques or hold property as security.
- Self-exclusion is available confidentially and is described under host responsibility. A person subject to an exclusion order will be refused entry for its full term.
- Gaming credit issued as part of a package is a fixed amount, is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash, expires at the end of the stay, and is not issued to anyone under twenty.
- Nothing offered by Wave Passage may be played remotely. We operate no remote or interactive gambling service of any kind.
6. The Tapeka Room, The Longboat Bar and The Haruru Bathhouse
- Restaurant bookings held for fifteen minutes past the time. Tables of eight or more cancelled inside 24 hours are charged NZ$25 a head.
- Alcohol is served under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012. We will ask anyone who looks under twenty-five for identification and we will refuse service to anyone intoxicated.
- The Haruru Bathhouse treatments cancelled inside 12 hours are charged in full. Under-sixteens may use the pool with an adult but not the hot tubs or the steam room.
- Tell us about pregnancy, heart conditions, recent surgery or allergies before a treatment, so the therapist can adjust it or decline it.
7. Events
- Event bookings are confirmed on a signed function agreement with a deposit of 25%.
- Final numbers are required seven days out and are the minimum charged.
- Cancellation inside 30 days forfeits the deposit; inside 7 days, 75% of the contracted value.
- No food or drink may be brought in without written agreement. Cakes are the usual exception and there is no charge for one.
8. Liability
- The safe at reception is available at no charge. We are not liable for valuables left in rooms or in vehicles.
- Parking is free and unattended, and vehicles are left at the owner’s risk.
- Activities booked through the concierge — boats, ferries, tours, drivers — are supplied by independent operators under their own terms. We arrange them; we do not run them. Where weather cancels an activity forming part of a package, we refund that element in full.
- We are not liable for failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including weather, power failure and government direction.
9. Website
- Text and photography on this site belong to Wave Passage Hospitality Ltd or are used under licence.
- We keep the site accurate and up to date, but menus, hours and rates change and the confirmation you hold is what binds us.
- This website provides information only. Nothing on it is a game, and no gambling of any kind can take place through it.
10. Complaints
Speak to the duty manager while you are here, which is almost always the fastest route. Afterwards, write to [email protected] and the general manager will answer within two working days.
